Storytelling Sunday: creating new traditions

Hello everyone,

Today's Storytelling Sunday at Sian's. So grab a cup of something and head to her blog to read other people's contributions. Here's mine:

This year we explore precious things, past or present (at least, that's my reading). This month, I chose one tradition I'm slowly but surely establishing: a Saturday tea/journaling ritual at a special place. I could drink tea at home, but I find that going to a tea place is taking the whole sensory experience to another level (especially if there are some pastries involved ;-)).

Here is a look at a few of my experiences so far in Bordeaux. First, Couleurs Sucrées, my favorite place of all time. They have traditional and original pastries to go along and it's very cosy. And they sell quality products:

Ailleurs à Bordeaux is a nice place to go too, though it can get crowded and noisy. The decoration and china they use are so old that it's a trip down memory lane or to another time to go there.

Coffea is a franchise, so it doesn't really have any special identity to it, but it's a quiet place to go and it sells awesome tea.
This little Saturday thing is my little self-care bracket in very busy weeks. It is my little indulgence to relax and connect to my writing while being outside. Grateful for what I can enjoy and just to be where I am. I used to hate tea and now I cannot live without it.
What about you? What are your precious things?

  1. What a great idea! My journaling seems to take a back seat to everything else on the list. I think adopting this practice would make a big difference, and we have lots of coffee shops to choose from.

  2. What a lovely idea this is! Your photos do a perfect job of conjuring up your special time..and of making me think it's something I'd love to try myself. I wonder, usually I like quiet for my writing..but this would be fun to try!

  4. We have a little tea room not far from where I live. I love to go there by myself and drink pots of tea while listening in on conversations from other tables. I bring my laptop with me so it looks like I'm working, but I'm really not.

  7. I am glad you have adopted this Saturday ritual and took photographs too. They give a glimpse into your lovely idea of being in a cafe and journaling, something I may try myself. Like Elizabeth though, I am often sitting listening to the conversations going on around me!

  9. It is good to reward yourself after a long week. Whenever possible I take myself out for a Saturday cooked breakfast where I sit quietly and read the paper for 30 minutes or so before the chaos of the weekend begins.

  11. Oh I would love to visit all those tea places - especially for the pastries. (I am sitting here munching on raw veggies to be healthy!) Your idea looks better.
